Installation and Configuration Portalsuite 2002
Already the precursory version of the Portalsuite 2002 has been downloaded and successfully installed by quite different companies and people with quite different know-how and knowledge several thousand times in the past.
In addition to the different know-how and knowledge of all those people there are many very different server surroundings and platforms in use. Furthermore one has got his own server, while others rent dedicated servers from their providers and again others merely use standard web space accounts. Some are familiar with operating systems like Linux and in general with servers very detailed, others are familiar with HTML and web design, but have no or little knowledge about administration of complex server structures. For this reason it is very difficult to write an installation guide which is on the one hand comprehensible for everybody and, on the other hand, especially universally valid and cyclopedic.
Therefore we firstly divided this installation chapter into two general scenarios:
4.1 Installation of the Portalsuite 2002 onto your own server
4.2 Installation of the Portalsuite 2002 onto a provider’s foreign server
In 4.1 we assume that you run your own server at your place or at your provider and do have full access authorisation as „root“ or as „administrator“ as well as the necessary knowledge of administration. In the first subchapter we present a very brief and skimpy overview on the most important steps. This first overview chapter aims especially at practised and experienced administrators who already have experience in web-based and PHP-based applications. Afterwards we cater to these steps detailed in the following subchapter.
In chapter 4.2 we assume another scenario: that you merely rent a standard web space account at a provider and do not possess neither full authorisation on the server nor administrative knowledge. We will show the installation, possible difficulties and special cases concretely and detailed step by step.
In the following chapters from 4.3 on we will show you how to adapt the Portalsuite even further to your needs and provide an overview on the most important configuration parameters. Furthermore we will briefly cater to the topic „security“.
In the following we assume that you run your own server at your place or at your provider and do have full access authorisation as „root“ or as „administrator“ as well as the necessary knowledge of administration.
